If you're new to freelancing, you might want to consider joining an association for perks like access to job lists, networking events, and discounts on writing seminars. While I've encountered some writers who have been disappointed with an association experience--often complaining that associations seem to cater to the less experienced freelance writing crowd--others rave about membership and enjoy being a member of an association where writing is the common interest.
