On the Bookshelf: When Maternity Leave Ends, Are there Alternatives to Going Back to the Legal Grind?

August is known as the most popular month for birthdays.  October takes second place.  If you’re a lawyer mom who had a baby in August, that means your maternity leave (if you were lucky enough to get a 12 week one) has just ended or is about to end.  And, if you’re a new lawyer dad who welcomed a new baby in October, you’re probably back at work now after any paternity leave–or using up your precious vacation days.  In either case, you might now be wondering whether (and how) you can spend more time with baby and less time with clients.

A creative work arrangement or a career detour could be the answer.  This site, Darling Hill, is one resource to help lawyers seeking ways to improve happiness in the law or stay connected to the law while exploring new adventures.  We hope you come back often.

Staying at Home, Staying in the Law is another resource to help you and employers find a win-win solution to your interest in flexible work and your employer’s interest in retaining talent–btw employers, if you’re not interested…you should be, especially if you want to save money over the long haul.

The Legal Career Guide is yet another resource for lawyers and law students wondering how to find happiness in the law.

And, while we’re on the subject, check out PAR’s Best Practice #10 Job Share (a.k.a. Jobshare) to learn all about job sharing and how you can make one happen in your law firm.
